Storage

Keep herbal teas in an airtight container and then store in a dark, cool, dry place free from strong odors.

The shelf life of dried loose herbs is 1-2 years. If herbs begin to lose smell, taste and/or color, they are best used for compost rather than medicine.

A brewed herbal tea keeps about 3 days when tightly bottled and refrigerated. Reheat as needed, don’t boil.

Cools the fire!

Pitta consists mainly of the element of fire (and some water) a person with a pitta predominant constitution or imbalance has a tendency to feel hot/heated. To counter that, Ayurveda treats with therapies that are cooling, nourishing and soothing. Lemon balm, oat straw and chamomile offer natural sweetness that nourish and cools an overheated body, mind and emotions, chrysanthemum and rose are slightly astringent and cooling, and lavender soothes tense muscles.

How to brew

To make an infusion, simply boil 1 cup of water to 2 teaspoons – 1 tablespoon of herbs depending on desired strength. Pour water over the herbs, cover, and let steep for 10 minutes.

The more herb you use and the longer you let it steep, the stronger the brew. Drink 3-4 cups daily for 2-3 months and feel the stress just slip away.
