Finding time for self-care I view as key to healthy and balanced living, especially for women. It's much easier to give from a cup that is full rather than depleted or empty. In my experience, it doesn't work.
My brother has been my good teacher and inspiration for this. He makes it a priority to have a few hours per week to practice self-care and works out, does body scrubs and steams - and he has the most incredible skin!
1-2 per week I spend 10 minutes on exfoliating with body scrub, here's are the basic proportions for you to make your ow
- 1/2 cup of either fine sea salt or sugar
- 1 cup of a mix of cold-pressed oil (sunflower, coconut, olive, almond)
- 6 drops each of 2 essential oils such as lemon, lemongrass, rosemary, tangerine and rose geranium
How to: Add the salt or sugar to a glass jar and pour the oil over and stir to combine. Add essential oils and stir again to distribute evenly. Rub the scrub onto your skin, preferably when damp, and rinse with warm water, and towel dry.
Making it yourself is simple and fun and this way you avoid fillers and artificial fragrances.

If you have time afterwards, sit with a cup of tea and write a few notes in your journal or read something from a spiritual or inspirational book. These self-nurturing practices calm the nervous system, much needed in today's very distracted and busy world.
