Self-care with body scrub

Posted by Lala Naidu on

Finding time for self-care I view as key to healthy and balanced living, especially for women. It's much easier to give from a cup that is full rather than depleted or empty. In my experience, it doesn't work.

My brother has been my good teacher and inspiration for this. He makes it a priority to have a few hours per week to practice self-care and works out, does body scrubs and steams. Yay! and he has the most incredible skin!

Once per week, or every 10 days, I will make a body scrub with:

  • 1/2 cup of either fine sea salt or sugar
  • 1 cup of a mix of oils sunflower, coconut, sesame, almond (depending on the season and how I'm feeling in my body)
  • 6 drops each of 2 essential oils, lately I've been liking uplifting aromas lemon, lemongrass, rosemary, tangerine and rose geranium

Add the salt or sugar to a glass jar and pour the oil over and stir to combine. Add essential oils and stir again to spread evenly throughout. Rub the scrub into your body when damp and rinse with warm water, and towel dry.

This is so simple and easy, and making it yourself, you avoid fillers and artificial fragrances.

If you have time after, sit with a cup of tea and write a few notes in your journal or read something from a spiritual or inspirational book. These self-nurturing practices calm the nervous system, much needed in today's very distracted and busy world.
